Brent Kast Memorial Hike Returns June 6, 2026
Marines, Veterans, and Families to Gather for the 2026 Brent Kast Memorial Hike
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Marines, veterans, families, and supporters from across Southern California will come together once again for the Annual Brent Kast Memorial Hike at Malibu Creek State Park.
What began as a meaningful tribute has grown into a strong tradition of camaraderie, remembrance, and connection between multiple Marine Corps League detachments and the broader veteran community.
This year’s hike will begin at 0800 hours at Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas, with participants meeting at the parking lot off the Las Virgenes Road entrance before starting the approximately 4.75 to 5-mile round-trip hike through the scenic trails and mountains of the park.
The event honors the memory of Brent Kast while also bringing together Marines and supporters from different detachments who continue to strengthen the bonds formed through military service and community involvement.
Participating detachments include:
• Detachment 597, Simi Valley
• Detachment 017, El Toro
• Detachment 1277, San Fernando
• Detachment 1347, East Los Angeles
• Detachment 1490, Canoga Park
• Detachment 1496, Big Stick
• Detachment 930, Antelope Valley
One of the things that makes the Brent Kast Memorial Hike special is the wide range of people who attend each year. Active Marine Corps League members, veteran families, friends, and community supporters all walk together at their own pace. Some participants come to honor Brent Kast directly. Others attend to reconnect with fellow Marines, support the veteran community, or simply spend time with people who understand the importance of service, sacrifice, and brotherhood.
The event is not a race. It is about participation, reflection, and community.
For many attendees, the conversations along the trail become just as meaningful as the hike itself. Marines from different generations and detachments share stories, reconnect with old friends, and build new friendships that endure long after the event.
The annual hike also highlights the continued strength and visibility of the Marine Corps League throughout Southern California. Events like this demonstrate that the League remains active, engaged, and connected to both veterans and the local communities it serves.
Malibu Creek State Park provides a fitting setting for the memorial hike. The open trails, mountain views, and peaceful surroundings create an environment where participants can reflect, reconnect, and enjoy time together outside the normal pace of everyday life.
The event remains open and welcoming to all Marine Corps League detachments, veterans, family members, and supporters who would like to attend.
Participants are encouraged to bring water, wear comfortable hiking shoes, and prepare for warm weather conditions.
